    “Kick-Off to 2010″

    Happy New Year!

Please join us next Tuesday, January 5th for San Francisco Green Drinks!

This month we’ll be wrapping up the holiday season by making green New Year’s resolutions, recycling holiday gifts, and paying tribute to our host, 111 Minna, for their exemplary contributions in sustainability and in their outstanding efforts for the community.  Don’t miss our kick-off to 2010 - it’s going to be an epic year!

    Green New Year’s Resolutions
Come make your green resolutions for 2010 with your fellow Green Drinkers and we’ll take some fun photos to remember them by!  Need inspiration?  Check out the Promise Board photos from Green Generations.

    Recycle Your Gifts
At our January event, recycle the holiday gifts that weren’t quite for you. Green Drinks is re-gifting goods to Raphael House Shelter, the first homeless shelter in San Francisco. In 2007, they went green by improving energy efficiency and purchasing sustainable products. Support green and those in need by donating gifts!

    Tribute to 111 Minna Gallery

Established in 1993, 111 Minna Gallery is in the business of Community, Art, and Leisure. 111 Minna Gallery transforms itself every 6 weeks with rotating exhibitions of contemporary art, providing an ever-changing atmosphere.  For owner Eiming Jung and manager Michelle Pederson, the primary goal is to enrich and entertain. Their support of art, music, good causes, and special events connect the community.  The dedicated staff, motivated by the same principles, helps ensure that friends and guests of 111 Minna are well taken care of and return again and again.

111 Minna is also one of the most sustainable and green-friendly venues in all of the Bay Area. Michelle is at the forefront of these green-friendly practices, which she promotes both at work and at home. Green-friendly products are supported and purchased whenever possible. Almost all of Minna’s waste is diverted from landfill. All straws, cups, lemons, napkins, etc. go into composting bins, while most other waste is recycled appropriately. This is a venue that makes the extra effort it takes, and truly does care about the future of our planet as we do.

A Recap of San Francisco Green Drinks 2009

    Statistics

    Special Events in 2009

May 5th: After several wonderful years at Varnish Fine Arts our growing community needed a larger venue to call home and we found it at 111 Minna. In May of 2009 we hosted Green Drinko De Mayo, to a lively spring event that celebrated our new digs, a new SFGD website and a blossoming Green Drinks community.

May 19th: Shortly after moving our festive May event, SFGD hosted Green Career Connections, a unique recruitment opportunity that connected green Bay Area companies with SFGD job seekers. On May 19th, over 25 employers with 100 actively open positions met with 300 potential employees for a very successful night of professional networking and job seeking.

August 14th: San Francisco Green Drinks invited the Bay Area green community to Green Generations, a SFGD fundraising gala for established organizations that provide environmental education to under-served children. $2,394 was raised for three local organizations and their inspirational programs; they include: Bay Area Wilderness Training (BAWT) (Youth Wilderness Program), Literacy for Environmental Justice (LEJ) (Bay Youth for the Environment) and Santa Clara Valley Audubon Society (SCVAS) (Wetlands Discovery Program).

December 1st: For the 2009 holiday season, we threw a very successful Holiday Bash and Benefit which raised $5,108 and signed-up 38 volunteers to support GRID Alternatives’ mission to outfit low-income families with solar electric systems. In 2010, San Francisco Green Drinks will work with GRID Alternatives to purchase and install a set of solar panels on a local low-income home in San Francisco.

    “The Story of Impact”

    Gobble Gobble Green Drinkers!

Please join us next Tuesday, November 3rd for San Francisco Green Drinks.

The “story of impact” takes many turns. This December, we look to our leaders meeting in Copenhagen to write a new story of impact in the form of legislation and history. Our November sponsors, Earthjustice and WorldofGood, have written their own chapters in the story of impact. These two socially conscious organizations are heading up two raffles during our November event! Prices include t-shirts, copies of the award-winning book Justice on Earth, and personal interview with an Earthjustice lawyer!

Be sure to check out SFGD’s Calendar! Come by and post an event on November 3rd!

Earthjustice represents - free of charge - more than a thousand nonprofits and organizations in court, from national organizations like the Sierra Club, NRDC and the American Lung Association to local community groups like the Oakland-based Asian Pacific Environmental Network. Their cases have made a big impact on people’s lives, from protecting the national parks that they visit to cleaning up the air and water in our communities.

    WorldofGood

WorldofGood.com by eBay is the world’s first online multi-seller marketplace to convene thousands of socially and environmentally responsible products all in one place, empowering you to shop in ways that align with your personal values. Respected, independent organizations verify the positive impact every product has on people and the planet.

For the first time, WorldofGood.com will also hold its own in-person event on November 18th, giving interested consumers the chance to mingle with local sellers and trust providers from the marketplace. The event will feature food, drinks, and product giveaways.
