About Us

What We Do

San Francisco Green Drinks (SFGD) is a volunteer-run community organization that actively promotes green networking, education and volunteer events in the San Francisco Bay Area. SFGD’s mission is to be the eco-conscious hub, both on and offline, for local individuals, organizations, and businesses that aim to strengthen and support the local environmental and green community.

 About SFGD

On the first Tuesday of every month San Francisco Green Drinks holds a large social networking event for 50-100 sustainability professionals. A broad range of community partners, businesses and non-profits contribute to the event, enriching our community with their knowledge, opportunities and ongoing services. SFGD also utilizes and promotes online resources, such as a community event calendar and volunteer network, that strive to bring together sustainable thinkers with those looking to participate and take action.

Our History

San Francisco Green Drinks was founded in 2003 with the simple desire to provide a networking opportunity for environmental professionals. From entry-level job seekers to upper-level professionals, a diverse mixture of intelligent locals became the core attendees of SFGD. Over time, our mailing list grew to over 5,000 members. This naturally evolving social phenomenon demonstrates the thirst for connection, knowledge, and opportunity that exists across the Green Drinks network.

Leadership Team

Alice currently serves as a 2014 ProInspire Fellow for the award-winning homeless services agency Community Housing Partnership. Prior to that, she worked for the global data science firm Dunnhumby serving multi-billion dollar clients such as Macy’s and L’Oreal. She was also part of the founding team of a nonprofit media series called Bridge the Gap TV that went on to air on PBS and National Geographic. Alice holds a Bachelor of Science from NYU Stern. She is passionate about global warming, transportation, food waste, ethical fashion, and creating an economy where green is the new black.

Zack Ahrens, Co-President

Zack relocated to the Bay Area to attend the Presidio Graduate School (MBA, Sustainable Mgmt).  He is from Boston – born and raised just North of the city (minus the accent). He has a BS in Entrepreneurship from UVM, Class of 2009. He has experience in Urban Farming and Home Energy Efficiencies as retrofit energy advisor.  He is looking to work with like minded people at the intersection of business and policy for a healthier, more resilient society. He has seen three glaciers on three different continents  – all of them melting.  He is a lover of swimming, tasting wine, radical travel immersion experiences, community building and good humor.

catherinehuffmanCatherine Huffman, Director of Marketing

Catherine works at Cengage Learning, an education technology company in San Francisco, and her primary goal is to foster community engagement among students and professors. Prior to this role, she served as a Project Coordinator on the Web Marketing team at Intel. When not at work, she can be found outside: birding, backpacking, or playing kickball. Catherine majored in Environmental Studies with an emphasis in Natural History and Environmental Education at UCSC. Now that she’s a part of the SFGD team, she’s excited to revitalize her passion for social and environmental justice, to augment the Green Drinks go-to-market strategy, and to reconnect with the Bay Area sustainability movement.

Khun is a Project Manager and Environmental Professional with work experience managing environmental, community development, infrastructure, and urban planning projects in five Southeast Asian countries. He relocated to the Bay Area from Bangkok, Thailand in early 2015 for new career opportunities. He joined Green Drinks because he enjoys meeting and connecting with new people, especially in the field of environmental and water sustainability. You can also find Khun at San Fran Dhammaram Temple on weekends where he volunteers teaching Thai to children.
